Nelson Mandela Foundation trustee, Minister Tokyo Sexwale accepts the donation from South Korean businessman Chung Mong-Joon

July 2, 2010 – Today eminent South Korean businessman Chung Mong-Joon showed his support for the Nelson Mandela Foundation and made a financial contribution to assist with its ongoing work.

Chung, a shareholder in Hyundai Heavy Industries and vice-president of FIFA, who is in South Africa for the duration of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, pledged to assist with the Foundation’s work.

Nelson Mandela Foundation trustee, Minister Tokyo Sexwale, accepted the donation on behalf of the Foundation.

Sexwale said: “We are committed to developing the relations between our two countries and you can regard the Nelson Mandela Foundation as your support and resource in this regard.”

Chung said: “I was thinking who or what is Nelson Mandela. He is a symbol of all human endeavour and efforts to fight for equality and dignity for all. We need more statesmen like Mr Mandela.” 

The funds donated by Chung will be used to support the Foundation’s work, through the Centre of Memory and Dialogue, which promotes the values and vision of Mr Mandela.

Chung Mong-Joon and Tokyo Sexwale
