Kaya Walk

The Mandela Remembrance Walk & Run will take to the streets of Pretoria on the 11th of December in a big way. Last year’s event saw runners taking up virtual participation from across the globe in line with our messaging #WhereEverYouAre in honour of Nelson Mandela, during a time when our lives were restricted by the pandemic. This year’s event will once again be physical and it’s going to be more fun than ever!

Taking place at the Union Buildings, the event will honour Madiba and his commitment to South Africa. The organisers are therefore asking all those entering to find the inner Madiba in you, to #BeTheLegacy and honour the memory of the father of our nation!

This is the perfect event to see you into the festive season, so don’t miss out – click on the link below and enter today!

The Mandela Remembrance Walk & Run is once again offering a half marathon (21.1km) distance, with a single lap, circular route through the streets of Pretoria – perfect for those runners looking for a longer run before heading into the festive season break! Meanwhile, those looking for a shorter challenge, but still something that will allow you to enjoy a few Christmas calories, can opt for the 10km race, while the 5km Remembrance Walk offers a third option on the day.

The Union Buildings will host the start and finish of this year’s race, honouring the legacy of Tata Madiba, notably where he took his first steps as President in the New South Africa in 1994. Also, the 5km Remembrance Walk will actually follow the route Madiba took as he lay in state, and key heritage points will give the walkers a chance to honour the great man as you walk the historic route.

All entrants will receive a race T-shirt at registration as well as an amazing goodie bag! Furthermore, Discovery Vitality members participating in this year’s Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run will earn up to 600 fitness points for completing the 10km and 1500 fitness points for completing the 21km event. (These points will be automatically awarded and will take up to four days to reflect on the Vitality Points Monitor.)

And running or walking will just be the start of the celebrations! There will be live entertainment by top South African artists and DJ’s, plus plenty of food options to keep everyone happy for the whole day, Also, those wanting to keep your heart rates going after the run or walk can join in for some fun aerobic action on the lawns.
