Nelson Mandela Tribute: A  conversation that will speak to the significance of Memory and why we remember?

The Nelson Mandela Foundation will host an event as part of the "Remembrance period" to mark five years since Madiba’s passing. The event will look at how histories have shaped the imagination of the future.

At this event, which will be facilitated by Nikiwe Bikitsha, globally renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will deliver a keynote address, followed by a conversation with Dr. Sebabatso Manoeli and Neo Muyanga on the role of memory and importance of remembering.

Ms. Adichie, a feminist and the bestselling author of the novels Purple Hibiscus, which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize; Half of a Yellow Sun, which won the Orange Prize; and Americanah, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and was named one of the ten best books of 2013 by The New York Times, will speak on why it is important to remember, as well as Madiba’s personal significance to her.

Her input will be followed by two reflections, first by Dr Sebabatso Manoeli, a historian and development practitioner followed by Neo Muyanga, a 2018 Atlantic Fellow for Racial Equity.

In the year marking Madiba’s Centenary, the Nelson Mandela Tribute, the conversation will seek to speak to an audience of both young women and men about how we reckon with history and how we find versions of history that include the marginalised?
