Invitation to cover: Mandela Day 2018 launch – a centenary celebration

From: Nelson Mandela Foundation

Date: 18 April 2018

The Nelson Mandela Foundation invites you to cover the 2018 Mandela Day launch as we reflect on the legacy of Madiba by cementing a culture of volunteerism. The Mandela Day centenary campaign is a campaign that will serve as the launch of a global initiative that is not only a tribute to Nelson Mandela, but also a tool to help us count down to his centennial birthday.

The Foundation invites all to play a part in building a society of our dreams, inspired by the values of the global icon. The campaign prompts global citizens to take #ActionAgainstPoverty, inspire change and make every day a Mandela Day. On the day, various stakeholders will exhibit their respective Mandela Day initiatives.

“It is important that we use the capabilities we have, wherever we are stationed in life, in a way that dismantles the unequal structures of power and protects the most vulnerable,” says Sello Hatang, CE of Nelson Mandela Foundation. “All of us must commit to continuing Madiba’s work; fight poverty and inequality; strive to eradicate the growing scourge of racism; and reckon with the history of oppression.”

The event will also serve to announce the 2018 Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture keynote speaker.
