Nelson Mandela Foundation

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Sexwale family on the passing of their beloved father, Mr Frank Sexwale.

As Tokyo Sexwale is an integral member of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, we share in this great loss and wish to offer our strength and support to him and the Sexwale family.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NMF, Professor Njabulo Ndebele said: “Frank Sexwale was an admired soldier who fought against tyranny in WWII and continued his fight for freedom in his contribution to the successful defeat of the apartheid government. In his later years, he continued to serve his family and country in various roles with his wisdom and experience.”

As Madiba once said: In the last few years we have walked this road with greater frequency, marching in the procession to bid farewell to the veterans of our movement, paying our last respects to the fallen spears of the nation from a generation now reaching the end of a long and heroic struggle.

Mr Frank Sexwale could lay claim to a life lived to the full with the courage of his convictions and in the service of others. We trust this knowledge will comfort the Sexwale family as they mourn the loss of a grandfather, father and husband and send them our deepest condolences.

He will be honoured by the SA Legion this Sunday, 22 February, at the SS Mendi Commemoration Services at Avalon and Atteridgeville.
