Several of the scams perpetrated in Nelson Mandela’s name, and in that of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, offer people positions as an ambassador for the Foundation. Any of these is a hoax – there are no Foundation ambassadors.
The latest of these frauds is doing the rounds on Facebook, and uses the name of the Foundation chairman, Prof. Njabulo Ndebele – and an apparent copy of his South African identity document – to elicit funds from people.
In the example that has been shared with us, a position as Foundation ambassador to the Philippines was offered, and the victim was asked for $2 000 to process their application.
These messages have come from people calling themselves: Thulisile Manci, Godswill Nnamdi Elegbua, Thembelihle Mhlongo and Nolubabalo Tyembe.
Please do not fall for this scam, or any scam akin to it. Please report such scams to the Foundation.
