Schlemmer, Lawrence

Academic and political commentator, Lawrence Schlemmer is a former president of the Institute for Race Relations and one of its current vice presidents. He has been, among other things, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Natal; Director of the Centre for Policy Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand; Professor at the Wits Business School, and Vice President of the Human Sciences Research Council. He is an elected founder member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa, the executive director of MarkData (Pty) Ltd, and a consultant.

Professor Schlemmer has authored 11 books, 101 scientific and semi-scientific journal articles, 65 chapters in books, over 100 research papers and 13 research monographs.
