1881. Village Management Act

This was something that was applied to "both European and non-European villages. The Act was applied to Bethelsdorp and other Co loured villages which had once been missionary institutions, but the results were not sufficiently encouraging" (Marais 1938: 253).

This was later amended (sort of) by ACT 29 of 1909 "which was designed to suit the needs of Co loured communities" (Marais 1938: 253).
