Nelson Mandela’s book, Conversations with Myself, nominated for NAACP Image Award

January 25, 2011 – Publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux has advised that Nelson Mandela’s book, Conversations with Myself, has been nominated for a NAACP Image Award, in the field of outstanding literary work for a biography or autobiography.

NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People, is an American civil rights organisation that hosts an annual awards ceremony to celebrate “outstanding achievements and performances of people of colour in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing and directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavours”.

Other nominees in this category include Condoleezza Rice for A Memoir of My Extraordinary, Ordinary Family and Me, musician Jay-Z for Decoded and Ray Charles Robinson, Jr, for the biography of his father.

The awards ceremony will be broadcast on FOX television in the United States on Friday, March 4.
