From: Nelson Mandela Foundation
Date of Publication: 6 November 2020

The Nelson Mandela Foundation welcomes the appointment of Professor Puleng Lenka-Bula as Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Africa (Unisa). We have every confidence that she will lead Africa’s largest open distance learning institution and the world’s longest standing distance education university with candour and distinction. That she will become the first woman to occupy the position carries special significance.

Professor Lenka-Bula’s career has been an illustrious one which underscores her expertise in leadership and ability to lead Unisa. From being Vice-Rector of Institutional Change, Student Affairs, and Community Engagement at the University of the Free State to having served as Dean of Student Affairs at the University of the Witwatersrand and as a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s office as well as the Senior Executive Team at Wits, we are encouraged by the esteem and diligence she will be bringing to Unisa.

We wish Professor Lenka-Bula all the best in her new role.
