#27for27

As part of the commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s release week, the Nelson Mandela Foundation invites you to a public event that will honour his legacy on Monday 13 February 2017.

This year, we will not only commemorate the 27 years of Madiba’s time spent behind prison bars, but also mark the 27th year that he would have been a free man.

Our #27for27 campaign signifies these two milestones in Madiba’s life.

On 13 February, we will reflect on Nelson Mandela’s first public address in Gauteng after his release in 1990. The Foundation will launch a campaign leading up to Nelson Mandela’s centenary in 2018.

At the launch, a series of events and projects building up to the centenary will be announced.

The event will be held at what was then the DOCC Hall where Madiba regularly trained in the 50s. As we reflect on the 27 years since Madiba walked free, the Foundation strives to look at the current context of our country through the lens of Nelson Mandela’s values.
