19 August, 2011 – You are invited to the send off of Cycalive cyclists on the morning of Sunday 21 August, 2011 at the Torah academy, 59 Oaklands Rd, Orchards. The event will take place from 9h00 to 10h00.

CycAlive was launched by Torah Academy, Moletsane High and Tladi Technical in 1998. It has since been joined by Pace College, Soweto. CycAlive is an event for Grade 11 students of different cultural and religious backgrounds. It aims to build bridges, raise funds, encourage leadership and promote road safety. Over the last three years CycAlive has been part of the Mandela Day calendar.

Various dignitaries will be present, including the Chief Rabbi and representatives of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The Field Band, Members of the Steel Wheelers Harley Davidson Bikers Club will be part of the send off too.

The cyclists will travel from Johannesburg to Durban, arriving in Durban on Thursday 25 August, 2011. The cyclists will stop at various points along the route and undertake community service activities in schools and communities. Excess funds will be used to significantly improve educational projects and needs in the participating schools. CycAlive has also distributed tons of stationery to needy schools.
