Donor Accountant

The Nelson Mandela Foundation is looking for a new Donor Accountant.

This is a fixed-term position, forming part of the Finance team of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The Donor Accountant carries the main responsibility for the preparation of financial reports for internal and donor usage, as well as the maintenance of donor reporting schedules and templates. Forming part of the Finance Department, the role ensures the financial integrity of donor-funded projects and initiatives, providing accounting support to meet the needs of the organisation and donors.

The organisation needs an individual with strong leadership qualities, good communication skills and the attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate and timeous reporting per donor specifications. 

Requirements: 

• BCom Accounting Degree or equivalent

Experience:  

• Between 3 and 5 years of applied accounting experience 

• Articles advantageous, not mandatory

• Previous NGO/civil society exposure background advantageous

Requirements:

• Accounting regulations and procedures, specifically International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

•  SAP Knowledge and experience

• Advanced MS Excel skills

• Experience with general ledger functions, budgeting frameworks and cash flow principles

• An analytical mind

• Commercial and business awareness

• Good communication skills – both written and verbal

• A keen eye for detail and ability to probe further into data

• Deadline-orientated and an ability to stick to time constraints

• Self-starter, able to work independently

• Works well in multi-disciplinary teams 

• Ability to work well under pressure

Main Duties:

• Preparing monthly and quarterly donor accounts for internal as well as donor usage

• Prepare donor reports per donor requirements, as outlined in donor contracts

• Manage accounting transactions for a key set of identified donors

• Prepare donor budget forecasts

•  Assist with month-end and year-end accounts closure process

• Ensure correct expense allocation per donor funding stipulations

• Comply with financial policies, regulations and frameworks

• Assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts and statutory accounts for audit purposes

• Responding to financial inquiries from internal stakeholders and donors by gathering and interpreting data

• Examining financial records to check for accuracy
