Dialogue Director
The Nelson Mandela Foundation is looking for a new director for the Dialogue and Advocacy Department.
This position aims to develop the Dialogue and Advocacy Programme of the Nelson Mandela Foundation into a leading social justice programme in South Africa with an international footprint. The programme should find ways to promote social justice and make a difference in people’s lives by using dialogue as a grounding methodology.
Responsibilities:
- Provide planning, oversight and review of Dialogue Programme by contributing to the development of the organization’s strategic development process with applicable content and analysis
- Develop the Dialogue strategy in response to the overall organizational strategy
- Develop an annual work plan for the Dialogue department in alignment with the strategic objectives of the organization
- Direct the dialogue programme in accordance with the key focus areas as directed by the Board of Trustees
- Oversee Dialogue projects, associated research and fellowship programme implementation as well as reviewing the impact of the interventions
- Identify most pressing needs for research and dialogue and develop appropriate interventions
- Direct the department and manage due diligence on relevant key stakeholders and possible partners
- Collaborate with heads of department across the institution to advance and elevate brand perception through multiple platforms as approved
- Provide credible and accurate information to be communicated towards pronouncing and elevating the institution’s image within the prevailing or projected socio-economic and cultural environments
- Liaise with the institutional leadership structure on matters related to the overall strategy of the Foundation’s transatlantic fellowship programme and its implementation in South Africa
- Coordinate supervision of staff and SA-based consultants working on the transatlantic fellowship programme’s projects to monitor timelines and ensure smooth operations and high standards for quality
- Inform the development of the fellowship programme’s work, particularly as it relates to new initiatives
- Serve as a key thought partner to the racial equity fellowship programme on effective organisational development and the overall positioning of the programme within South Africa and in global racial equity networks
- Coordinate the development of the institutional budget for the fellowship programme and oversee expenditure against the budget
- Build a team that is cohesive, productive and highly motivated
- Contribute to the building of a motivated, productive staff complement
- Foster collaboration across departments and units
Requirements:
- Masters degree in Social Science, or related disciplines
- Four years experience managing people
- At least eight years experience in applied social interventions and/or research
- Ability to contribute to public discourse and represent the organisation
