Invitation to Cover: Nelson Mandela Foundation Fights Hunger in Howick

From: Nelson Mandela Foundation
Date of Publication: 9 September 2020

In support of its efforts to fight the scourge of food insecurity in vulnerable communities and schools, the Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with Hulamin and the Nelson Mandela Legacy RIDE4HOPE, would like to invite you to cover the #Each1Feed1 distribution at Khazimula Children’s Home in Howick. As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect many vulnerable families, food security remains an enormous threat to the lives and wellbeing of children across South Africa and the globe alike. While many schools battle to redeem the academic year, concerns over the nine million children who are heavily reliant on the national school nutrition programme remain on the rise.
The Nelson Mandela Legacy RIDE4HOPE is one of many initiatives mandated by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to raise funds towards COVID-19 relief efforts through the Each1Feed1 campaign. The Nelson Mandela Legacy RIDE4HOPE creates a platform to carry Mandela’s message of hope through sports. The Covid-19 Relief Virtual Challenge ensures that through the Mandela Day campaign, the Foundation continues to touch lives beyond July. The virtual challenge raised R600 000.00 that was donated to the Each1Feed1 campaign of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Each1Feed1 is an emergency relief food delivery initiative that seeks to assist vulnerable communities across South Africa.
To respond to the increased levels of food insecurity, the Nelson Mandela Foundation together with Hulamin and the Nelson Mandela Legacy RIDE4HOPE will be supporting the Khazimula Children’s Home and the community of Howick with food parcels on Thursday the 10th September in Howick at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site.
