The Nelson Mandela Foundation has been made aware of a scam being circulated via email. The fraudulent correspondence makes mention of a cash prize promotion organised by the Harmony Gold Mining Development Company Award Board South Africa and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The email asks the recipient to furnish the sender of the email (a certain Mr Syracuse Magnus, Chief Information Officer and Claims Agent at Harmony Gold) with a complete set of contact information and banking details.
Said information, according to the scam email, will enable the Award Board at Harmony Gold Mining to verify the winnings and file a bank application for immediate approval and transfer of the funds.
The email is accompanied by a document that bears the Harmony Gold livery and letterhead.
The letter informs the winner of the cash prize amount —along with a reference and ticket number — and requests full contact and banking details in order to process the prize.
Please note that the Nelson Mandela Foundation has no prize-giving agreement with the aforementioned Harmony Gold Mining Development Company Award Board South Africa.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation would like to alert you that this email is fraudulent and should be treated as such.
