Retraction published by Sunday Independent Editor Makhudu Sefara
Matter of fact

February 6, 2011 — Sunday Independent editor Makhudu Sefara published a retraction in today’s edition of the paper.
The retraction reads: “In a piece titled “Mandela — the making of an unnecessary crisis” we reported that Nelson Mandela had suffered a collapsed lung. This is not correct, he suffered acute respiratory infection.
“We also questioned Nelson Mandela Foundation spokesman Sello Hatang’s use of the words “routine” to suggest he misled the nation. The Foundation and Hatang insist the visit was routine and we accept it. We therefore retract unreservedly the suggestion that Hatang lied.”
