The Elders launch new video for Mandela Day

Elders encourage us all to give 67 minutes to change the world

July 14, 2010 – The Elders – a group of eminent global leaders founded by Nelson Mandela – have joined the former President of South Africa in a special message of support for Nelson Mandela International Day.

In a new video message shot during the Elders’ last visit to South Africa in June 2010, they urge people everywhere to give 67 minutes of their time to reach out to others in their communities.

Bikers for Nelson Mandela Day depart from Johannesburg

Bikers hit the road in support of Mandela Day

July 13, 2010 – A group of 21 motorbike riders and a support team of around 20 people left the Nelson Mandela Foundation this morning on a six-day road trip to Cape Town to spread the word about Mandela Day. Actor Morgan Freeman is participating in the event, although he is not riding a bike.

The bikers, including Jack Devnarain, Jeremy Mansfield, Lehlohonolo Saint Seseli and Hanna Grobler, will work in community projects in various towns en route as their contribution to Mandela Day.

Nelson Mandela Institute launches their Mandela Day education initiative

July 12, 2010 – The Nelson Mandela Foundation’s sister organisation, the Nelson Mandela Institute, launched its Mandela Day education initiative, entitled “Six ideas to step in”, at the Foundation’s offices on July 8, 2010.

The Institute, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Department of Basic Education, the Development Bank of Southern Africa, Equal Education, READ Educational Trust, the Sunday Times and the June 16 1976 Youth Foundation, are encouraging people to get involved in education as part of their Mandela Day activities.

Bikers do it for Mandela Day

South African and international celebrity bikers get behind Mandela Day

July 5, 2010 – A group of South African and international celebrities will join a group of bikers this year for a five-day tour in support of Mandela Day.

From July 15 to 18, 2010 en route from Johannesburg to Cape Town – in the smallest villages and the biggest cities – local and international actors, adventurers, media gurus, sportsmen and women, singers and supporters will be giving of their time to promote Mandela Day and get involved in community initiatives.

President Clinton encourages people to do something good on July 18

June 24, 2010 – Former US President Bill Clinton spoke at the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Centre of Memory and Dialogue today in support of Mandela Day on July 18.

Mandela Day is a day of public service when members of the public are encouraged to do something good for at least 67 minutes in honour of more than 67 years that Nelson Mandela dedicated to public service and the fight for social justice.
