London statue honours Madiba’s contribution

A lifelike statue of Mr Nelson Mandela, his arms outstretched, was unveiled today in Parliament Square in central London, to stand as testimony of the triumph of freedom and humanity over oppression.
Mr Mandela and his wife, Mrs Graça Machel, witnessed the unveiling of the bronze statue, which is slightly larger than life size, and was sculpted by the late Ian Walters.

Reflections on Women’s Day 2007

August 9 1956 is a day that we as South Africa can look back on and feel a deep sense of pride, in the impact made by the women then and in the inspiring legacy they have left the women of today.
On Women’s Day, August 9 1996, 40 years after that memorable stand by 20 000 women against an unjust system, our Founder delivered a speech in Pretoria in their honour.

JULY 19 2007 – Making Peace, an exhibition celebrating the legacies of Chief Albert Luthuli and Mr Nelson Mandela, opened today at the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The opening was attended by Mr Mandela, President Bill Clinton, and an invited audience of about 180 dignitaries and media.
