London statue honours Madiba’s contribution

Ceremony attended by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and other dignitaries

A lifelike statue of Mr Nelson Mandela, his arms outstretched, was unveiled today in Parliament Square in central London, to stand as testimony of the triumph of freedom and humanity over oppression.

Mr Mandela and his wife, Mrs Graça Machel, witnessed the unveiling of the bronze statue, which is slightly larger than life size, and was sculpted by the late Ian Walters.

Mr Nelson Mandela and His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco partner in raising funds for charity

Mr Nelson Mandela was pleased when His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco agreed to host a major fundraising initiative in Monaco for the benefit of the charities closest to their hearts. On September 1-2, 2007, two historical fundraising events will take place in the Principality of Monaco: a private lunch at the prince’s palace for 10 select donors, followed by a gala dinner attended by 350 guests each contributing €3,500. All funds raised will benefit Amade Mondiale, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
