Death of selfless Mozambican president commemorated

Oct 19, 2007 – Twenty-one years ago, on October 19, 1986, President Samora Moises Machel of Mozambique was killed when his plane, apparently off-course, smashed into a Lebombo hillside near Mbuzini in what is now Mpumalanga, South Africa.

HIV/AIDS awareness music concert to be held on December 1

A 46664 concert will be staged in Johannesburg on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2007, Mr Nelson Mandela announced today.
The first 46664 concert, aimed at raising HIV/AIDS awareness, was held in Cape Town in 2003. Concerts in George, South Africa (2005), Madrid, Spain (2005) and Tromsø, Norway (2005) have followed.
The Johannesburg concert will be supported by the City of Johannesburg, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and 94.7 Highveld Stereo, a Johannesburg-based radio station.

Marking Heritage Day with a new picture of Mr Nelson Mandela

A Nelson Mandela Foundation archivist has discovered a photograph of Mr Nelson Mandela during his school years which could be the earliest photograph of him yet found.
It is thought that the photograph may have been taken when he was a student at Healdtown, the Wesleyan College in Fort Beaufort, Eastern Cape.
