October 20, 2009 – It has come to the attention of the Nelson Mandela Foundation that a book by Denis Sassou Nguesso, the President of the Republic of Congo, claims to have a foreword written by Nelson Mandela. This is a false claim. Mr Mandela has neither read the book nor written a foreword for it.

October 1, 2009 – Nelson Mandela has been awarded the 2009 Thurgood Marshall Breaking Barriers Award by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). A handover event was held at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg yesterday.
The TMCF describes the award as “the highest honour presented to an individual whose international impact on social justice, equality, public service and leadership embodies the spirit of Marshall’s legacy”.

Entitled GR Naidoo: A Generous Eye it celebrates the work and life of GR Naidoo, a newshound who was committed to reporting on South Africa’s freedom struggle and who, himself, lived the non-racialism he worked to help create.
