March 28, 2011– Today saw the official launch of Nelson Mandela International Day for 2011. Mandela Day, under the theme “change”, is a call to action for people everywhere to take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr Mandela did.

March 28, 2011 – Today the Centre of Memory at the Nelson Mandela Foundation announced its online debut on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook. The Centre of Memory is now live and tweeting and has a dedicated Facebook page. A YouTube Channel and Flickr account will be up and running by the first week of April.

The email, which claims to come from the Nelson Mandela Charity Organization, informs the receiver that he or she is a select recipient that has been chosen as a beneficiary to one million United States dollars from the Mandela’s Charity Fund.

March 9, 2011 – The Palace of Justice was the venue for the historic Rivonia Trial (1964) involving Nelson Mandela. In 2002 the entire interior of the building was renovated, except for the holding cells below ground level. Mandela and his fellow trialists found themselves in one of these cells on every day of the trial. The walls of the cell carry messages left by generations of political prisoners.
