The Nelson Mandela Foundation convened a dialogue session on November 17 2006 to gain input from diverse role-players on the Draft HIV and AIDS and STI Strategic Plan for South Africa, 2007–2011. After the dialogue session, a task team presented a written submission on the Department of Health, including comments and recommendations.

The Fourth Annual Lecture was delivered by former South Africa president Thabo Mbeki on July 29, 2006.

Quoting from poetry, the Bible and great works on economics, Mbeki urged people against the worship of personal wealth. We must “defeat the tendency in our society towards the deification of personal wealth as the distinguishing feature of the new citizen of the new South Africa,” he said.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation convened a dialogue on September 26 and 27 2006, at Maropeng, Cradle of Humankind, in Gauteng. This brought key stakeholders together to share lessons on models of delivery of antiretroviral treatment (ART) in resource-limited settings in South Africa.
