Government employees take the Mandela Day message to heart in 2009. The Mandela Day campaign message is simple: Mr Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting a chosen charity or serving a local community.

The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory community conversations are a continuation of work started in late 2007, focusing on HIV prevention. In 2009 the Centre launched a series of conversations that focuses on creating social cohesion in communities where xenophobic violence is a problem.
