Hundreds of people gathered in Unisa’s ZK Matthews Great Hall on Tuesday, 25 February 2014, for the first of three Mandela/Fidel Legacy Dialogues, which celebrate the close relationship between Nelson Mandela and Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
At the event the documentary film Mandela and Fidel, by acclaimed filmmaker Estela Bravo, was screened.
This was followed by a question-and-answer session in which Bravo, former South African ambassador to the US Barbara Masekela and Cuban ambassador to South Africa Carlos Fernandez de Cossio answered questions from the audience.
The second Mandela/Fidel Legacy Dialogue will be held later this year in Cuba, and the third again in South Africa.Read more

On 11 December 2013, Brand SA and the Nelson Mandela Foundation hosted a special tribute event at the Centre of Memory in Houghton, with guest speakers Elinor Sisulu and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Chairman of the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Mandela Rhodes Foundation, Professor Njabulo Ndebele, described the event as an occasion to reflect on the life of Nelson Mandela.Read more

On 14 December, 2014 the Nelson Mandela Foundation hosted a special event, with guest speakers Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe and daughter of the late Bram Fischer, Ilse Fischer.
At a time when Mandela is being accorded an almost messianic status the world over, it is people like Fischer Wilson and Deputy President Motlanthe who are left to remind us of the other faces of Madiba – the faces that reveal that he was indeed a just a man who did great things through the collective he was a part of.
