Struggle autobiographies: Recommended new book by Hugh Lewin
May 10, 2011 – In his 2011 Alan Paton lecture, Head of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Memory Programme, Verne Harris, recommended Hugh Lewin’s new book Stones against the Mirror: Friendship in the Time of the South African Struggle.
Harris was referring to what he called a “new rash of [South African struggle] autobiographies and biographies”, and indications in them “of a greater willingness to open up to damage”.

February 25, 2011 – The Nelson Mandela Foundation, in collaboration with the Robert Sobukwe Trust, officially opened a photographic exhibition entitled Remember Africa, remember Sobukwe, which honours anti-apartheid activist Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.
The exhibition is on display at the Nelson Mandela Foundation offices in Houghton.

November 1, 2010 – The official South African launch of Nelson Mandela’s new book Conversations with Myself was held at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg with acclaimed South African playwright and actor John Kani reading extracts from the book and leading a discussion between Mr Mandela’s close friend and anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, his youngest daughter Zindzi Mandela and his great-grandson Luvuyo Mandela.
