The Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation collaborated to launch Kathy: The Man Behind the Public Figure, an exhibition about South African freedom struggle hero Ahmed “Kathy” Kathrada – a friend and comrade of Nelson Mandela. The exhibition launch was held at the former Women’s Prison at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kathrada’s release from prison on October 15, 1989. It was displayed at Constitution Hill until February 2010 before moving to the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

The exhibition moved to the Gauteng Legislature from April 2010 until June 2010 and then moved to Liliesleaf until October. It is currently on display at the Sharpeville Human Rights Exhibition Centre until June 2011.
