About the 90th Celebrations
The celebrations for Madiba’s 90th birthday have already started. This is a year-long occasion with events ranging from exhibitions, dialogues, book launches, 46664 concerts and the sixth annual Nelson Mandela Lecture. Our focus is on ‘a celebration of ideas’ and while there will be shows and musical events, they too are aimed assisting our ongoing work in social justice work started by Madiba and the perpetuation of his ideals of freedom, non-racism and gender equality.

Pensioners visit Nelson Mandela Foundation
May 9, 2008 – “We’re so excited to be here!” enthused pensioner Martha Naidoo, who visited the Nelson Mandela Foundation on May 8 with other residents of Dewetshof Retirement Village in Johannesburg.
The group of about 50 pensioners was accompanied by Hilda Mkhwanazi, of the City of Johannesburg, and Top Billing presenter and businesswoman Basetsana ‘Bassie’ Kumalo.
Pensioners wish Madiba happy birthday
May 8, 2008 – Nelson Mandela received one of his first 90th birthday cards today.
Residents of Dewetshof Retirement Village in Johannesburg visited the Nelson Mandela Foundation today to present a signed card to Foundation CEO Achmat Dangor, who received their well wishes on behalf of Mr Mandela.

March 5 2008 – Nelson Mandela’s charity organisations announced their plans in Johannesburg to celebrate the former South African president’s 90th birthday, which is on July 18 this year.

March 5, 2008 - It’s not quite yet the birthday, I must say, before we start singing “happy birthday”. Where we come from, there’s a superstition that you shouldn’t be wishing people happy birthday before their birthday, so it’s not quite time to celebrate the birthday but it’s time to make a couple of important announcements around this important year and this important date.
