In Conversation With ...

One of the ways in which the Nelson Mandela Foundation is celebrating Madiba’s 90th birthday in 2008, is through a series of interviews with prominent South Africans and Africans, which aims to highlight the thoughts and perspectives of important African thinkers on the current state of South Africa, Africa, democracy and leadership, among other issues.

The series is being published simultaneously in City Press newspaper in South Africa, and in a longer format, on the Foundation’s website.

July 13, 2008 – As part of an interview series to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s 90th year, Tara Turkington spoke to veteran activist and campaigner for the poor, Fatima Meer. She shared her opinions on a range of issues facing South Africa and the world today, including poverty, the limitations of the South African Constitution and her thoughts on present-day leadership.

June 15, 2008 – In the fifth of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s “In Conversation With” series, Dr Frene Ginwala talks to Tara Turkington about her relationship with Nelson Mandela, the early days of the international campaign to release political prisoners, political negotiations, the new parliament, her involvement in the inquiry into the National Director of Public Prosecutions’ suspension and the South African media.
