Malibongwe Dialogue

About the Event

The Malibongwe Dialogue is an annual event organised and hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Centre of Memory and Dialogue. The Malibongwe Dialogue seeks to remember, through dialogue, the role of women in South Africa’s history.

The first Malibongwe Dialogue was hosted last year at Mandela House in Johannesburg. The event honoured four veterans of the apartheid struggle: Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, Amina Cachalia, Rica Hodgson and Ntombemhlophe Bam. The dialogue was convened around an exhibition entitled Malibongwe: “We thank the women”, a collection of black and white photographs of women activists which was curated by the Apartheid Museum.

To read more about the event, visit the news story “Nelson Mandela hosts veteran activists”. You can also download a copy of the booklet produced after the event: “Malibongwe igama lamakhosikasi / Praise be to women”. To see photographs of this event, visit our gallery.

This year’s Malibongwe Dialogue will take place on August 22 in Johannesburg. Attendance at the dialogue is by invitation only.
